Eat Bulaga!

Eat Bulaga! is an episode that is based on the Miss Universe competition and was first shown on 17 September 2011. This episode features five female candidates and an introductory kasabihan. Its premise is a parody of Miss Universe 2011, where Miss Angola Leila Lopes won. The pageant features a number of funny antics during the introductory segment, talent section, and question-and-answer section. However, it is worth mentioning that the entire show is scripted, and the results are pre-determined.

In the first episode, the beauty pageants featured impersonators who took on the role of famous celebrities. The contestants were also crowned beauconeras, a portmanteau of beauconer and contesera. They were competing to win the Ms Q & A crown. The segment was hosted by Ate Girl Jackie Gonzaga. The first round was the “Pangmalakasang Intro” round, wherein the impersonators introduced themselves.

In the Philippines, beauty pageants are tied to fiestas and are a cultural staple. While straight men are often the front-line judges, gay men are prominent supporters and play an integral role in the contest. Not only do they make great friends, but they can also use the opportunity to boost their own careers.

The popularity of the pageant has spread across the world. In fact, the competition has produced prominent Filipina beauty queens. A number of them have gone on to become famous personalities.
