Music is a great way to get in the mood and make a performance more entertaining. Whether you’re a contestant or a director creating the perfect pageant soundtrack, a good playlist is a must. The right song can motivate you to practice and take your dancing routine to the next level, or simply help you relax and enjoy your show.
Beauty Pageant – Parry Music – Showbiz
The title track of singer/songwriter Parry Music’s debut album, Showbiz, is a gorgeous little number with a catchy acoustic guitar riff and a hypnotic piano solo. The song combines the power-pop of Ash with the slacker sensibilities of Pavement.
It’s the perfect song to sing while walking down the runway or as a backdrop for a talent routine. It also makes a nice accompaniment to a dance performance, especially for girls who love a bit of strutting and swagger.
‘Pretty Hurts’ by Beyonce – Rolling Stone
A witty take on the world of beauty pageants, “Pretty Hurts” was directed by Melina Matsoukas and won a prize for being the most visually exciting music video of 2014. The clip features Beyonce competing in a beauty pageant and attempting to win, while also taking home a trophy for her singing prowess (or so she claims).
This is one of the most fun songs I’ve heard in a long time, and it’s also a very cool looking piece of art. You can check out the ‘Pretty Hurts’ lyric video on YouTube for some more background information.
